Widely considered the first Spanish death metal band, Antropomorfia has been a pioneer of Madrid's extreme metal scene since 1989, enduring multiple breakups and reformations. Despite extended hiatuses, the project's legacy as a foundational force in Iberian brutality remains unchallenged.
Active from 1991 to 2014 across two distinct eras, Barcelona's Antropophobia pushed the boundaries of avant-garde death metal with albums like "Vacuum," which fused metal with blues, psychedelia, and improvisation. Their genre-defying approach earned them a unique place in Spain's experimental metal history.
Antítese were a thrash/death metal band from Osasco, São Paulo, originally founded in 1986 and part of the first wave of Brazilian extreme metal. Their sole full-length album, also titled 'Antítese', was released in 1989 — a record marked by old-school thrash riffing and semi-growled vocals with a death metal edge, placing them alongside contemporaries like Sepultura and Mutilator in the late-80s Brazilian underground. They released their debut album Unspeakable Uncreation in August 2017 through Apocalyptic Productions, a Santiago-based underground death and black metal label.
Originally influenced by Swedish melodic death metal giants like Arch Enemy, In Flames, and Soilwork, Anvil of Doom evolved from Jerez de la Frontera's unlikely metal scene into a technically accomplished force signed to Xtreem Music. Their 2004 debut "Deathillusion" and 2011 EP "Turn Your Back" showcase a band that grew from melodeath worship into their own distinctive voice.
