Hillsborough, North Carolina's Escaping Aghartha conjures blackened doom built around the mythic concept of Agharta — the subterranean hidden world — using ambient darkness and slow, deliberate riffing to suggest something vast and unknowable beneath the surface. Since 2016, the project has developed a sound as much about space and dread as it is about heaviness.
