Portland, Oregon's Drown emerged in 2019 with funeral doom metal that takes its name and its mandate seriously — music designed to feel like submersion, all glacially slow tempos, cavernous low-end, and a suffocating emotional weight that discourages any notion of a quick listen. In a city with a rich experimental metal culture, they occupy the most extreme edge of slowness.
Dayton, Ohio's Drowner approach heavy music from multiple angles at once — their sound stacks blackened atmosphere on top of droning sludge on top of doom's slow collapse, arriving at something genuinely disorienting in the best possible way. Active since 2022, they belong to a tradition of Midwestern bands that find emotional extremity in sonic density.
Drowning Hour is a death doom metal project from Shrewsbury, Shropshire, formed in 2025, built around multi-instrumentalist Craig Godbold with vocalists Kieran Scott and Kelly Godbold. Their debut EP Sanger Fra Dypet delivers three tracks of slow, atmospheric, and bleak death doom stretching past twenty minutes.

Druglord plays stoner/doom metal from the Netherlands, active since 2012 and ruling over a kingdom of fuzz-drenched heaviness. Their narcotics-kingpin name captures the intoxicating, mind-altering quality of their slow, heavily distorted compositions.
Fremont's Druid surfaced in 2018 playing doom and stoner metal with a California haze built into every riff — slow-rolling tempos, fuzz-heavy tones, and an emphasis on hypnotic groove over urgency. St. Louis's Druid, active since 2018, works the territory between doom metal's funeral weight and sludge metal's abrasive, downtuned grit. Their music reflects the Midwestern heavy underground's tendency toward bleakness — dense, slow-moving, and uninterested in accessibility for its own sake.
Herndon, Virginia's Druid Stone formed in 2021 playing stoner and doom metal with a noise rock edge that keeps their sound from settling into pure genre comfort. The Northern Virginia suburb isn't a traditional heavy metal hub, which may explain the band's willingness to let noise and texture intrude on the expected fuzz-and-riff formula.
Druidess is a psychedelic doom metal and rock band from Newcastle upon Tyne, formed in 2014. The band blend the crushing weight of doom metal with swirling psychedelic textures in their heavy, trance-inducing sound.
