A Brazilian Viking metal solo project by multi-instrumentalist Witmar, who handles all instruments and vocals. The project draws on Norse mythology and pagan themes — including song titles in Old Norse — while operating from South America, a rare combination that situates it within Brazil's small but dedicated Viking metal underground. Earlier releases came out through Metalage Productions and White Metal Art Producciones.
Asathor are a Viennese Viking metal band operating under the asathorlux imprint, whose album Vegvísir — named after the Icelandic runic compass — signals their engagement with Norse mythology and Old Norse spiritual symbolism. Their music pairs melodic, folklorically influenced arrangements with the anthemic, mid-paced energy of Scandinavian Viking metal.
Asynja channels gothic, folk, and Viking metal from Stockholm since 2018. Named after the Norse female deities — the Asynjur — they bring divine feminine power to their tri-genre compositions from the Swedish capital.
Aurvandir channels black and Viking metal from Stavanger since 2012, named after a figure in Norse mythology whose luminous toe became a star. From the oil capital of Norway, they mine different resources — mythological ore refined through extreme metal.
Finnish band from Helsinki, formed in 2011, whose sound evolved from rock and hard rock toward melodic death and viking metal. Their dramatic stylistic transformation reflects an increasingly heavy and Nordic vision.
Bathory was a Swedish extreme metal band from Vällingby, formed in March 1983 by sole constant member Thomas Forsberg, known as Quorthon, whose first four albums—raw, lo-fi, and openly Satanic—are regarded as foundational documents of Scandinavian black metal. Beginning with Blood Fire Death (1988) and fully realized on Hammerheart (1990), Quorthon pivoted to an epic, Norse-mythology-driven style that effectively created Viking metal as a subgenre. Quorthon died of heart failure in June 2004 at age 38, ending the band; his two-decade body of work remains among the most influential in extreme metal.
Spanish viking/folk metal band from Palma on the island of Mallorca, formed in 2015. They channel Norse-inspired folk metal from the sun-drenched Balearic Islands.
Black Tears was a viking metal band from Neuquén, in Argentina's Patagonian region, catalogued on Encyclopaedia Metallum and dedicated to themes of Norse mythology and epic battles. The band was one of the few acts in Argentina's deep south to work within the viking metal tradition before splitting up.
German black/viking metal band from Neumünster, formed in 2011. They merge black metal ferocity with viking metal's epic, Norse-inspired grandeur.
