Gothic/doom metal band from Bad Ischl, Upper Austria, The Avalon were formed in 1995 by Max Janofsky and Christian Kössler and contributed tracks to Austrian metal compilations including the "Xtraordinary — Neue Töne aus Salzburg" CD in 1997. After disbanding, the core members continued under the name Daylight Torn from 1999 onward.
Houston's The Awful Truth have been delivering melodic heavy metal with a hard rock backbone since 2012, carrying the Texas tradition of straight-ahead riff-driven metal into a city that has always had more room for it than outsiders might expect. Their music doesn't traffic in gimmicks — just the kind of honest, well-constructed heavy metal songwriting that has sustained the genre since its foundations.
Casper, Wyoming's The Band Repent bring thrash metal to one of the most remote corners of the American metal underground, a fitting backdrop for music that thrives on isolation and intensity. Formed in 2021, they're among the very few acts flying the thrash flag in Wyoming's sparse scene, and all the more notable for it.
The Banned is a black/death/heavy metal/punk band from Schleswig, Germany, active since 2000. They blend influences from across the extreme metal spectrum with punk's raw energy.
The Bar Stool Preachers are a Brighton punk band formed in 2014, known for a rousing blend of punk rock, ska-punk rhythm, street-punk spirit, and big melodic choruses. Their early identity was built around communal singalongs and working-band momentum, with Blatant Propaganda introducing a sound that felt both political and celebratory. Grazie Governo sharpened their songwriting into a mix of sharp social commentary, personal reflection, and pub-ready hooks, while Above the Static and later releases widened the emotional range without losing the band's crowd-first energy. The group's music often sounds upbeat even when the subject matter is angry or bruised, using brass-colored ska lift, driving guitars, and chantable refrains to turn frustration into movement. They have built much of their reputation through touring, where the songs work as shared release rather than detached performance. The Bar Stool Preachers' strength is their ability to sound earnest, defiant, and celebratory in the same breath.
The Barbarians of California is the heavy side project of AWOLNATION's Aaron Bruno and longtime producer Eric Stenman, born from their shared roots in late-'90s California hardcore and skate culture. Rounded out by AWOLNATION members Zach Irons and Isaac Carpenter, the project strips away pop pretense in favor of raw, thrashy aggression that reconnects Bruno with his hardcore origins in bands like Insurgence.
New Jersey's The Bardbarians lean into a wide stylistic range under a heavy metal banner, their name suggesting something both ancient and unruly — music informed by sword-and-sorcery theatrics and classic metal energy rather than a single subgenre's orthodoxy. Formed in 2021, they're among the newer acts keeping traditional metal's adventurous spirit alive in the Garden State.
The Barrel from Nice on the French Riviera deliver heavy and progressive metal with the explosive potential of their container-name — a powder barrel ready to blow — since 2013. Over a decade of Côte d'Azur-based metal has produced compositions of deceptive containment and sudden release.
The Bastard Sons were a York heavy rock band who moved with the grit of barroom rock and the impact of groove-oriented metal. The group first gained attention through EPs such as Bones and Roads, then expanded their sound on Smoke, a debut album that leaned into bigger riffs, rougher vocals, and songs built for direct live release. Tracks such as "Release the Hounds" and material around Smoke placed the band between punky rock and roll, bluesy hard rock, and metallic weight, with JJ Jackson's harsh-edged voice giving the music a bruised, confrontational character. The Bastard Sons did not sound like a retro exercise; they used classic rock swagger but pushed it through modern volume, breakdown-like dynamics, and a British underground touring sensibility. Their scope is metal-adjacent hard rock, with enough groove, grit, and aggression to sit comfortably beside heavier festival and club bills. The band's strongest material feels physical rather than ornate, driven by riffs that lurch, shout-along refrains, and a sense of momentum built for low ceilings and loud rooms.
