Converge
Formed in Salem, Massachusetts in 1990 by vocalist Jacob Bannon and guitarist Kurt Ballou, Converge are the foundational architects of metalcore and mathcore, forging a sound of almost unbearable intensity that melds hardcore punk fury with the structural complexity of extreme metal. Their 2001 masterpiece Jane Doe — a howling, fractured record built around Bannon's raw emotional catharsis — is widely regarded as one of the defining albums in heavy music history, ranking among the best metal records of all time in numerous critical polls.
