HANGMAN'S CHAIR
Formed in Crosne, Essonne, France in 2005 out of the local hardcore punk scene, Hangman's Chair began with a stoner and sludge-oriented approach before finding their defining identity in a bleaker, more post-punk influenced doom with the 2012 trilogy opener Hope /// Dope /// Rope. Albums including Banlieue triste (2018) on Spinefarm Records and A Loner (2022) on Nuclear Blast deepened their absorption of cold wave, shoegaze, and new wave into a desolate heavy framework. Their catalog is one of the most distinctive in European doom metal, rooted in Parisian suburban alienation.
