Martyrdöd formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2001, operating at the intersection of Scandinavian d-beat crust punk and blackened thrash metal, drawing on Anti Cimex, Totalitär, and Bathory as primary influences. The band released a string of albums through Southern Lord Records—including Paranoia (2012), Elddop (2014), and List (2016)—before signing to Century Media for Hexhammaren (2019). Their ability to embed melodic hooks and atmospheric darkness into otherwise brutal crust frameworks has sustained critical attention across nearly twenty-five years of activity.
