Nachtmystium
Formed in DeKalb, Illinois in 2000 by Blake Judd, Nachtmystium began as a raw second-wave black metal project before making a dramatic turn toward psychedelic and experimental sounds on Instinct: Decay (2006) and the critically acclaimed Assassins: Black Meddle, Part I (2008). Their incorporation of Pink Floyd and Krautrock influences into black metal was innovative and widely influential within the American black metal scene. The band went through periods of inactivity related to Judd's personal struggles, with the project intermittently revived through the 2020s.
