Opera Diabolicus
Opera Diabolicus is a Swedish horror-themed metal project established in Gothenburg in the mid-2000s by David Grimore and Adrian de Crow, drawing from epic heavy metal, gothic doom, and symphonic progressive metal in the tradition of King Diamond and Therion. The band released three albums — a self-titled debut (2009), 1614 (2012), and Death on a Pale Horse (2021, via Season of Mist) — each built around theatrical narratives of vampires, witchcraft, and the black death, featuring guest contributions from musicians such as Mats Levén and Snowy Shaw. Their sound is ornate and deliberately cinematic, prioritizing atmosphere and narrative coherence over conventional metal structure.
