Sanctuary is a heavy metal band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1985 by cousins and guitarists Lenny Rutledge and Sean Blosl, with vocalist Warrel Dane among its defining members. The band came to prominence when Dave Mustaine of Megadeth agreed to produce their debut, Refuge Denied (1988), which earned the band significant attention in the power and speed metal community. Their second album Into the Mirror Black (1990) pushed the band toward more progressive territory before label pressure to conform to grunge trends led to their 1992 dissolution; they reunited in 2010 and went on to record new material, though Dane's passing in 2017 cast a shadow over the band's legacy.
