Septicflesh is a Greek symphonic death metal band formed in Athens in 1990 by brothers Spyridon 'Seth Siro Anton' Antoniou and Christos Antoniou alongside guitarist Sotiris Vagenas, initially releasing dark and gothic-inflected death metal records through the 1990s. Following a hiatus, the band reformed in 2007 with a dramatically expanded sound incorporating the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and a full choir, debuting this approach on Communion (2008) through Season of Mist. Subsequent albums including The Great Mass (2011), Titan (2014), Codex Omega (2017), and Modern Primitive (2022) cemented their status as one of extreme metal's most technically and orchestrally ambitious acts, and in 2024 they became the first metal band to perform at the historic Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens.
