Heavy Metal
Sortilège formed in Paris, France in 1981 under the original name Bloodwave, becoming one of the most important acts in the brief but fervent French heavy metal underground of the early 1980s. The band released their self-titled EP followed by the album Métamorphose, then Larmes de Héros in 1986 before disbanding. Notably, Chuck Schuldiner of Death cited Sortilège as a primary influence, and the band's song 'Amazone' is credited with shaping the early development of death metal. After more than three decades of inactivity, original vocalist Christian Augustin led a reformed Sortilège to release Phoenix (2021) and Apocalypso (2023), their first album of entirely new material since 1986.
