The Chasm
Formed in Mexico City in late 1992 by guitarist and vocalist Daniel Corchado — previously of Cenotaph and a guest vocalist on Incantation's Diabolical Conquest — The Chasm relocated to Chicago in 1997 and built a dedicated underground following through a progressive approach to death metal that emphasized atmosphere, long instrumental passages, and complex song structures. Albums including Procession to the Infraworld and Farseeing the Paranormal Abysm trace a trajectory away from traditional death metal brutality toward increasingly abstract and at times entirely instrumental territory. Nine full-length albums over three decades have established the band as one of the most idiosyncratic and influential acts in the death metal underground.
