The Order of Israfel formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in autumn 2013, founded by guitarist Tom Sutton following his departure from Church of Misery. The band play epic doom metal in the grand tradition, incorporating folk and classic hard rock into their slow, riff-centered structures. Their debut album Wisdom (2014) was issued on Napalm Records and drew immediate comparisons to foundational doom acts; Red Robes followed in 2016, deepening the band's commitment to ceremonial, drawn-out songcraft.
