Treblinka
Treblinka formed near Stockholm, Sweden in 1987 as the founding vehicle for Johan Edlund, playing raw black/death metal under pseudonyms and releasing the single "Severe Abomination" in 1989. The band recorded material for an album during this period before Edlund renamed the project Tiamat in advance of their debut Sumerian Cry (1990), which incorporated reworked Treblinka compositions. As a historical entity, Treblinka represents the earliest phase of what would become one of Scandinavia's most stylistically adventurous metal bands, operating in the primitive intersection of black and death metal that defined the underground at the close of the 1980s.
