Velvet Thorns is a solo ambient black and doom metal project from São Paulo, created by David Amorim and defined by melancholic, heavily atmospheric compositions that draw on doom, ambient, and experimental textures. The project released the album "Empty Soul" in 2013, followed by "In The Name of Reason" in 2017 — a record conceptually referencing the Colônia psychiatric hospital in Minas Gerais, where tens of thousands of lives were lost.
