Visceral Evisceration
Visceral Evisceration was formed in Vienna, Austria in 1991 and were among the earliest extreme metal bands to incorporate female operatic vocals alongside male death growls, creating a jarring contrast that defined their sound. Their sole full-length Incessant Desire for Palatable Flesh (1994) on Napalm Records combined slow doom riffing with mid-paced death metal and marked a singular moment in early death-doom. The band changed their name to As I Lay Dying shortly afterward and disbanded in 1996.
