Watain
Watain formed in Uppsala, Sweden in 1998, taking their name from an early recording by the American black metal act Von, and have spent more than two decades developing one of the most uncompromising and ritually intense presences in the genre. Their breakthrough came with Sworn to the Dark (2007) and was consolidated by Lawless Darkness (2010), a double album widely regarded as a high-water mark of contemporary black metal, followed by subsequent releases on Century Media and Nuclear Blast. The band's seven studio albums and elaborate, confrontational live performances have made them central figures in black metal's international profile.
