Atmospheric black metal and post-black metal project from Minsk, Belarus described as "black metal from the land of swamps." Featuring music and arrangements by Daemethar, their 2024 album The Harvest and subsequent singles explore dark atmospheres through a blend of post-metal textures and raw black metal.
Montclair, New Jersey's Woodland Tomb have been fusing black metal and crust punk since 2015 in the time-honored tradition of underground bands who see the wall between extreme metal and d-beat as more of a suggestion than a barrier. Their sound carries the grit and forward momentum of crust alongside the cold fury of black metal, arriving at something that feels both punk in attitude and genuinely extreme in execution. It's ugly, and deliberately so.
Dungeon synth, punk, and black metal project from France active since 2017. WoodMoon occupies a unique intersection of medieval dungeon synth atmospherics, punk energy, and black metal darkness.
Canton, Massachusetts's Woods pursue atmospheric black metal with the solitary, introspective quality the genre does best when stripped of spectacle. Formed in 2015, their music tends toward the vast and immersive — tremolo-drenched passages that blur the line between aggression and ambience, built for long listening in the dark. They're part of a strong New England tradition of atmospheric black metal that takes influence from the region's bleak winters and isolated wooded landscapes.
Industrial black and doom metal band from Helsinki, Finland. Woods of Belial merges mechanical industrial harshness with the extremity of black and doom metal in a cold, hellish fusion.
Woods of Ypres was founded in Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 2002 by David Gold, the band's sole constant member across a revolving cast of over twenty collaborators. Beginning as a melodic black metal act, Gold progressively steered the project toward gothic doom on a series of albums that tracked a deeply personal artistic evolution. Gold died in a car accident on December 21, 2011; Earache Records posthumously released the completed Woods 5: Grey Skies and Electric Light (2012), which won the Juno Award for Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year in 2013, cementing Gold's legacy as a singular and tragic figure in Canadian heavy music.
Emerging from Florida in 2020, Worm began as a raw black/death/doom entity before evolving into something considerably more elaborate — later recordings layer symphonic arrangements over the suffocating weight of doom and the corrosive grain of black and death metal. The band's trajectory from crude burial-ground aesthetics toward orchestrated darkness is one of the more striking transformations in recent underground extreme metal.
Black metal band from Caen, France active since 2017. Wormkvlt channels pestilent darkness through raw black metal from the historic city of Normandy.
Black metal band from Umeå, Sweden active since 2016. Wormlight crafts atmospheric black metal from the university city of northern Sweden.
