Shadow Knell is a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania dungeon synth and dark ambient project featuring members of the band Poison Ruin. The project draws from dungeon synth forebears Mortiis and Penitent as well as the cosmic ambient work of Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze, constructing somber synth-drone landscapes built around layered orchestral textures and a sense of medieval fantasy mythology. Their self-titled debut album was released through Relapse Records in August 2024, receiving recognition from Bandcamp Daily as an album of distinction within the dungeon synth genre.
