Gravastar is a melodic death/groove metal band from Athens, formed in 2014. Named after the hypothetical gravitational vacuum star — a theoretical alternative to black holes — they deliver technically informed melodic death/groove metal from the Greek capital.
Formed in Visby, Sweden in 1988 — initially as Corpse — Grave are considered one of the founding pillars of Swedish death metal alongside Entombed, Dismember, and Unleashed. Their 1991 debut Into the Grave on Century Media established the chainsaw-guitar, down-tuned template that defined the genre, and three further albums across the early 1990s cemented their reputation. After a hiatus from 1997 to 1999, Grave resumed recording and have released a total of eleven studio albums, maintaining a consistently crushing approach throughout.
Austin, Texas death metal act Grave Alter arrived in 2023 with a sound that treats the grave as a place of active, festering ceremony. Their approach is ritualistic and putrid in equal measure, fitting the increasingly fertile Texas underground.
