Mass Worship formed in Stockholm, Sweden in January 2018, combining Swedish death metal's characteristic HM-2-inflected ferocity with post-punk atmosphere and progressive structural ambitions. The band released their self-titled debut on Century Media Records, followed by Spiritual Destitution, the latter recorded at the legendary Sunlight Studio with producer Tomas Skogsberg, the engineer responsible for defining the classic Stockholm death metal sound. Their willingness to bring bleaker, more introspective elements into a death metal context connects them to contemporaries like Grave and Dismember while marking their own distinct direction.

Massacra formed in France in 1986 and became one of their country's most significant early death metal bands, releasing the debut full-length Final Holocaust in 1990 through Shark Records after a series of influential demos. Enjoy the Violence (1991) and Signs of the Decline (1992) secured their reputation within the European death/thrash underground, before the band shifted toward a heavier groove-oriented thrash approach on later records. Their story ended tragically when guitarist Fred Duval died of skin cancer in June 1997 at age 29, effectively dissolving the band.

Massacre formed in Tampa, Florida in 1984, with original members including vocalist Kam Lee and guitarist Rick Rozz, both of whom had ties to the early lineups of Death. Lee is widely credited as one of the originators of the guttural death-growl vocal style that became the standard in death metal. The band's debut From Beyond (1991) on Earache Records arrived as a landmark of the Florida death metal scene, and after decades of hiatuses and lineup shifts, they returned with a renewed version of the band releasing Back from Beyond (2014), Resurgence (2021), and Necrolution (2024).
