Jaldabaoth is a Finnish progressive death/thrash metal band self-described as purveyors of Baothian hyperthrash. Their EP Across The Streams (2021) presents cosmically themed, technically complex compositions that blend progressive structures with aggressive death and thrash metal.
The Complexity of Distance is a 58-minute composed work for electric guitar by Illinois-based contemporary classical composer James Romig, a 2019 Pulitzer Prize finalist, commissioned and performed by Mike Scheidt, founder and guitarist of doom metal band YOB. Recorded in Eugene, Oregon and released on New World Records in 2022, the collaboration bridges notated contemporary composition and the sustained, distorted sonorities of heavy music, reaching number eight on the Billboard classical crossover chart.
Jouissance Morbide is a black metal band from Marseille, France, whose album Sublimation (2022) was recorded at Daemonicreation Studio. Their four-track release channels the raw intensity of French black metal through extended compositions including the eight-minute Sheol and Le ciel est mort.
