Phoenix, AZ, US · 2014–present · active
Phoenix's Reasons have been mashing hardcore fury and thrash metal aggression since 2014 in the classic crossover mold — fast, short, and hostile. The Arizona desert has always had a tradition of no-nonsense punk-metal hybrids, and Reasons fit squarely into that lineage of blistering brevity.
Campos dos Goytacazes, BR · active
Crossover/thrash band from Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro state, formed in 2010 by vocalist George Campos, guitarist Giovane Henriques, bassist Matheus Fernandes, and drummer Argron César. The band released the demo Massacre Urbano in 2010 and their debut full-length Pesadelo Brasileiro in August 2017, recorded between October and December 2015 at Studio Hammer in Campos dos Goytacazes.
Seattle, US · 2010–present · active
Seattle's Resistant Culture are one of the more politically charged acts in the American extreme underground, weaving crossover thrash, grindcore, crust punk, and death metal into a multi-genre assault that has carried an indigenous and anti-colonial perspective since 2010. Their music is as ideologically committed as it is sonically relentless — breakneck speeds and D-beat rhythms underscoring protest and resistance. Few bands in the underground carry this kind of conviction across so many subgenres at once.
Richmond, VA, US · 2024–present · active
Richmond, Virginia's Restrictor Plate fuse brutal death metal with hardcore in a way that echoes the city's long tradition of crossing heavy music subgenres with confrontational directness. Formed in 2024, they're among the newest entries in Richmond's storied scene, bringing a modern take on the powerviolence-adjacent death metal hybrid. Short, violent, and built for the pit.
NJ, US · 2023–present · active
New Jersey's Revenge Ritual emerged in 2023 dragging sludge metal's lurching, tar-thick riffs through the confrontational energy of hardcore, producing a sound that is as punishing as it is raw. The collision of sludge's slow-burn heaviness with hardcore's short-fuse intensity is a volatile combination, and Revenge Ritual lean into the tension rather than resolving it. Still early in their existence, they've already staked out a sound with real teeth.
Portland, OR, US · 2025–present · active
Portland, Oregon's Ripped Off launched in 2025 as one of the newest acts fusing death metal's extremity with hardcore's raw, confrontational urgency — a combination with deep roots in the Pacific Northwest's historically intense underground. Their name signals their ethos: stripped back, pissed off, and uninterested in polish. Even this early in their existence, they're plugged into Portland's vibrant heavy music community, which has long fostered this kind of brutal, crossover aggression.
Boston, MA, US · 2016–present · active
Boston's Ritual Blade have been beating the crossover drum since 2016, fusing the pit-ready energy of hardcore with the riff architecture of thrash metal in the tradition of D.R.I. and Excel. They bring the short, sharp, and chaotic energy that crossover demands — songs designed to detonate live rather than reward patient listening. The Boston hardcore pedigree informs their attack, keeping the aggression street-level and unromantic.
NJ, US · 2017–present · active
New Jersey's Rorschach have been colliding hardcore, metalcore, grindcore, and powerviolence since 2017 in a way that doesn't so much blend genres as force them into the same room. The result is aggressive and unpredictable, built on the intensity of hardcore and the technical vocabulary of metal without ever settling into either camp.
