Slapshot formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1985 from the remnants of Negative FX and DYS, with vocalist Jack 'Choke' Kelly as the band's most recognizable figure. At a moment when many first-wave Boston hardcore bands were drifting toward crossover thrash, Slapshot doubled down on the raw speed and directness of the original Boston sound, and their debut Back on the Map (1986) helped sustain the scene's identity through the late 1980s. The band's straight-edge lyrics and uncompromising stance made them influential well beyond the United States, particularly in Germany and Belgium. After nearly four decades of intermittent activity, Slapshot announced their farewell tour in 2025.
Sleeping Giant formed in Redlands, California in 2006 by members of Christian metalcore act xDeathstarx, establishing themselves as one of the most prominent acts in the intersection of extreme metal and evangelical Christianity. The band released five studio albums between 2007 and 2017, including Sons of Thunder (2009) and Kingdom Days in an Evil Age (2011), consistently integrating direct worship themes into their aggressive metalcore instrumentation. Their music reached audiences well beyond the Christian metal circuit, and the band played their final show in February 2018. Sleeping Giant were notable for treating their faith not as a marketing angle but as the central premise of their live and recorded output.
Slime formed in Hamburg, Germany in 1979, initially playing in the style of late-1970s British punk before evolving into the defining act of Deutschpunk — a distinctly German strand of hardcore punk with complex song structures and politically charged, story-driven lyrics. Albums including Yankees Raus (1982) and Alle Gegen Alle (1983) established their template, while Schweineherbst (1994) — released following a period of dissolution and reformation — is widely regarded as their finest work. Slime's consistent opposition to racism, fascism, and xenophobia made them not only musically influential but a cornerstone of German left-wing punk culture across more than four decades.
SLOPE formed in Duisburg, Germany in 2014, crafting a crossover sound that fuses hardcore punk urgency with the funk-inflected groove of acts like Suicidal Tendencies, Stuck Mojo, and Living Colour. After two EPs released between 2014 and 2017, the band issued their debut full-length Street Heat in 2021, followed by the sophomore album Freak Dreams in February 2024. SLOPE's ability to get metalheads and hardcore regulars moving simultaneously reflects a rare command of rhythm-forward aggression that distinguishes them within the European crossover scene.
