Cavalera

Cavalera is the continuing collaboration between Max and Iggor Cavalera, the brothers who founded Sepultura and helped push Brazilian extreme metal from underground violence into worldwide influence. Their work together has always been rooted in rhythm, riff, and impact: Max's barked vocals and serrated guitar attack locked against Iggor's unmistakable drumming, which can feel tribal, punk-fast, and mechanically heavy at once. After years of separate paths, the brothers reunited through Cavalera Conspiracy and later shortened the name as their focus turned increasingly toward the earliest Sepultura material. Recent Cavalera releases revisit Bestial Devastation, Morbid Visions, and Schizophrenia through full re-recordings, not as nostalgia pieces but as attempts to give those primitive thrash, death-thrash, and proto-blackened songs the power the brothers felt they always had live. Current sets often center on that early Sepultura era, with the band presenting the material as living extreme metal: raw, fast, percussive, and still connected to the restless force that made the original records matter.

Convulse

Finnish death metallers Convulse formed in Nokia in 1988 and became one of the earliest and most influential bands in Finnish extreme metal, their 1992 debut World Without God standing as a canonical document of the country's bass-heavy, atmospherically charged death metal sound. After disbanding in 1994, the band reformed in 2012 and returned with the album Evil Prevails, re-entering a scene they had helped shape nearly two decades earlier.

Santiago's Criminal have been one of South America's most enduring and internationally respected extreme metal acts since forming in 1991, blending thrash metal's riff-driven aggression with death metal's brutality into a sound that earned them a major label deal with BMG and MTV Latino airplay during the mid-1990s. Frustrated with the South American music industry, the band relocated to Europe in 2001 and reconstituted as a Chilean-British outfit, continuing to release well-regarded albums including Minion (2005), which Terrorizer listed among the year's ten best.

Montreal's Cryptopsy are among the most technically fearsome and influential bands in death metal history, forging a hyper-brutal and labyrinthine style since their 1988 formation that set the template for extreme technical death metal. Their 1996 masterpiece None So Vile — featuring the inhuman drumming of Flo Mounier and the bestial vocals of Lord Worm — is universally regarded as a genre-defining classic, a merciless and structurally intricate record that remains the gold standard of brutal death metal more than three decades after its release.
