Cemetery Skyline is a Finnish-Swedish gothic rock and metal supergroup formed in 2024, assembled from members of some of Scandinavia's most celebrated metal acts, including Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity), Markus Vanhala (Insomnium), Santeri Kallio (Amorphis), Victor Brandt (Dimmu Borgir), and Vesa Ranta (Sentenced). The band made their live debut at the John Smith Rock Festival in Finland in July 2024 and released their debut album Nordic Gothic the following October via Century Media Records.
Closterkeller are a Warsaw gothic rock band and one of the defining names in Poland's dark alternative scene. Formed in 1988, the group has long revolved around vocalist Anja Orthodox, whose dramatic voice and presence gave the band a recognizable center through decades of lineup changes. Closterkeller's music began in gothic rock, cold wave, and post-punk territory, then gradually absorbed heavier guitar tones, progressive textures, psychedelia, electronic color, and gothic metal atmosphere. Albums such as Purple, Blue, Violet, Graphite, Nero, and Viridian show a band willing to treat mood as a deep structure rather than surface decoration. Coal Chamber were among the first wave of nu-metal bands to emerge from Los Angeles in the mid-'90s, pairing Dez Fafara's sneering vocals with dark, gothic-tinged riffs and industrial textures. Their 1997 self-titled debut and follow-up 'Chamber Music' helped establish the nu-metal blueprint alongside peers like Korn and Deftones. Dark Sarah is the symphonic metal project of Finnish soprano Heidi Parviainen, launched in 2012 following her departure from Amberian Dawn and conceived as a vehicle for elaborate theatrical concept albums that blend classically trained vocals with cinematic orchestration and gothic atmospherics. Evanescence transformed the rock landscape when Amy Lee's operatic vocals collided with Ben Moody's gothic metal riffs on the 2003 debut 'Fallen,' which sold over 17 million copies worldwide. From Little Rock, Arkansas, Lee built a sonic world where classical piano, orchestral arrangements, and heavy guitars coexist in darkly beautiful harmony, producing iconic hits like 'Bring Me to Life' and 'My Immortal.' Lee's singular artistic vision has kept the band creatively vital through lineup changes, with 'The Bitter Truth' proving they can still deliver both power and vulnerability.
Frayle formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 2017 as a duo anchored by guitarist Sean Bilovecky and vocalist Gwyn Strang, pairing heavily down-tuned doom metal riffs with ethereal, near-whispered singing to create what the band calls "lullabies of chaos." Within Temptation formed in Waddinxveen in 1996 around Sharon den Adel and Robert Westerholt, first developing a gothic and doom-influenced symphonic metal sound before becoming one of the Netherlands' most internationally recognized heavy bands. Enter introduced the darker early style, but Mother Earth gave the band a broader identity through folk-like melodies, orchestral atmosphere, and den Adel's soaring vocal lines.
