Founded in Finland in 2021 by Markus Laakso of the death-doom band Kuolemanlaakso, The Ghoulstars assemble veteran Finnish metal musicians — including former members of Hooded Menace and Thermate — around a horror punk concept indebted to the Misfits, White Zombie, and cult B-movie cinema. The band signed to Season of Mist and announced their debut album The Dark Overlords of the Universe (2026), mixed and mastered by V. Santura of Triptykon at Woodshed Studio. They built their reputation through Finnish live performances before releasing a single recorded track, relying on the energy of their stage show.
Formed in Budapest, Hungary, in 2009 by two former members of the surf-psycho act Los Tiki Torpedoes, The Hellfreaks built their early reputation on a fusion of psychobilly and horror punk delivered with aggressive energy and dark theatrical flair. Their first two albums, Hell Sweet Hell (2010) and Circus of Shame (2012), established the project before a stylistic pivot toward harder punk rock on Astoria (2016), a move accompanied by a lineup overhaul. The band has continued releasing records, including God on the Run (2020) and Pitch Black Sunset (2023), broadening their sound while retaining the macabre imagery of their origins.
