Nashville's All Them Witches conjure a hypnotic blend of psychedelic rock, blues, and doom that feels both ancient and urgently modern. Blood Duster is a Melbourne, Australia grindcore and stoner rock band formed in 1991 by Jason Fuller, Anthony Barry, and Andrew Brown, taking their name from a John Zorn song. Their debut EP Fisting the Dead (1993) established Melbourne's gore-grindcore aesthetic, while Str8 Outta Northcote (1998) became notorious for splicing Southern rock riffs into blasting grindcore. Later records, including the self-titled 2003 album featuring original AC/DC singer Dave Evans, and the experimental 2007 double album Lyden Nå, expanded the band's palette significantly; their final show was in December 2017 before a 2025 reunion was announced.
Bokassa is a Trondheim, Norway power trio formed in 2013 by Jørn Kaarstad, Lars Erik Andreassen, and Olav Dowkes, playing a self-described 'stonerpunk' fusion of hardcore, punk, and stoner rock. Their 2017 self-released debut Divide and Conquer gained immediate recognition in Norway, and Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich declared them his favorite new band on his Beats 1 radio show in early 2018, leading to the band supporting Metallica on the WorldWired Tour across Europe in 2019. Subsequent albums Crimson Riders (2019), Molotov Rocktail (Napalm Records, 2021), and All Out of Dreams (Indie Recordings, 2024) expanded their international reach.
Brant Bjork is a Palm Desert, California musician best known as a founding drummer and songwriter of Kyuss, the desert rock band he helped form in the late 1980s alongside Josh Homme, Nick Oliveri, and John Garcia. After departures from Kyuss and Fu Manchu, Bjork launched a prolific solo career beginning with Jalamanta (1999), exploring funk-inflected stoner rock, acoustic desert blues, and heavy psych across more than a dozen solo albums on labels including Low Desert Punk and Heavy Psych Sounds. He remains one of the most recognized ambassadors of the Southern California Palm Desert scene that gave birth to the stoner rock movement.
CKY are a West Chester, Pennsylvania rock band whose riff-heavy sound became inseparable from early-2000s skate culture while retaining a stranger identity than many of their peers. Formed in 1998 from earlier musical projects involving Deron Miller, Chad I Ginsburg, and Jess Margera, the band developed a compact, instantly recognizable style: dry guitar tone, locked grooves, off-kilter melodies, and a mix of alternative metal, stoner rock, punk, and hard rock. Volume 1 and Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild made CKY cult favorites, helped by the visibility of skate videos and the CKY video series, but the songs survived beyond that context because the riffs were genuinely distinctive. An Answer Can Be Found, Carver City, and later material kept the band's identity moving through lineup changes and long gaps. CKY fit metal-adjacent and hard-rock scope through their guitar weight, groove focus, and alternative-metal edge. Their best tracks feel lean and weird at once, built from riffs that are simple enough to stick immediately but unusual enough to avoid standard post-grunge or nu-metal formulas. CKY remain a cult band because the sound is unmistakably theirs.
Germantown, Maryland's Clutch have spent over three decades as one of rock's most reliably excellent bands, evolving from hardcore punk origins into groove-laden, blues-infused hard rock. Neil Fallon's encyclopedic lyrical references and commanding baritone drive albums like 'Blast Tyrant' and 'Earth Rocker,' which overflow with riffs thick enough to stand on. Dark Fighter are a Bradford heavy desert rock band built around detuned riffs, hook-heavy songwriting, and a fondness for the warmer, fuzzier end of heavy guitar music. The group features Neil Beattie on vocals, guitar, keys, percussion, and flute, Chris Wood on guitar and vocals, Martyn Birchall on bass and vocals, and Amelia Helm on drums and percussion. Their sound pulls from desert rock, stoner rock, doom, and hard rock without trying to disguise its love of wide, rolling grooves and thick amplifier tone. Rather than rushing toward extremity, Dark Fighter emphasize weight, swing, and memorable vocal lines, placing gritty melodies over riff patterns that feel built for small rooms and loud stage volume. The band has been writing, rehearsing, recording, and playing around northern England while preparing early studio releases and festival appearances. Their identity is still young, but the intent is clear: direct, riff-centered heavy rock with a raw live-band feel and a strong sense of forward motion.
