Queens, NY, US · 2000–present · active
Bayside formed in Queens in 2000 and built one of the most durable catalogs in the emo and pop-punk world by sounding older, darker, and more disciplined than many of their peers. Anthony Raneri's voice and songwriting give the band its center: melodic but edged with bitterness, self-interrogation, and a dry humor that keeps the drama from feeling hollow. Sirens and Condolences and the self-titled album introduced the core blend of tight punk rhythms, sharp lead guitar work, and confessional choruses, while The Walking Wounded, Shudder, Killing Time, Cult, Vacancy, Interrobang, and There Are Worse Things Than Being Alive proved the formula had long legs. Jack O'Shea's guitar lines are a major part of the identity, adding classic-rock precision and restless movement to songs that could otherwise sit comfortably in scene-punk territory. Bayside are not heavy in the metal sense, but they belong in punk-adjacent scope through intensity, touring history, and emotional force. Their best songs make disappointment sound controlled rather than collapsed, turning personal wreckage into tightly written, repeatable anthems.
Elizabeth, NJ, US · 2022–present · active
Bayway formed in Elizabeth, New Jersey in late 2022 and quickly became one of the loudest new voices in New Jersey hardcore. The band's sound is blunt, heavy, and streetwise, mixing metallic hardcore breakdowns with rap-influenced vocal rhythms, mosh-ready pacing, and lyrics rooted in loyalty, struggle, confrontation, and local identity. Early releases such as World of Bayway introduced a stripped-down, self-recorded attack that felt indebted to 1990s NJHC while still fitting the modern beatdown landscape. Later material, including Word Is Bond, Bayway Takes Manhattan, and The Recipe, sharpened the group's personality with thicker production, guest features, and a more pronounced mix of hip-hop cadence and hardcore violence. Fronted by Jayway, the band has built a reputation around direct crowd engagement, regional pride, and unpolished charisma. Bayway's music is not subtle; it thrives on repetition, impact, and the physical release that makes hardcore shows feel communal and chaotic.
Formentera del Segura, ES · active
Spanish stoner/sludge metal band from Formentera del Segura in Alicante province. They deliver heavy, fuzzed-out stoner-sludge from the Mediterranean coast.
Trondheim, NO · 2023–present · active
Trondheim-based crossover thrash act active since 2023, smashing together thrash metal's riff-driven velocity with punk's stripped-down aggression and DIY ethos. Their short, sharp compositions hit with the impact of a circle pit in a phone booth.
DE · 2016–present · active
German progressive black/death metal band formed in 2016. They push extreme metal boundaries through progressive structures woven into a black and death metal foundation.
BR · 2019–? · disbanded
BDSM was a Brazilian raw black metal, grindcore, and noise band that self-identified as "Junkie Black Metal," operating out of Inferno, Brazil from around 2016 to 2023. The trio — LL (bass/vocals), FG (drums), and DM (guitars) — released a string of lo-fi assaults including the demos "Primitivo Black Metal" and "Poser Demo," as well as the albums "Dark, Black, Blacker!!!" and "End," finishing their run with the EP "The Black Metal Drugged" (2023) on No Profit, No Money Records. Their themes centered on human degradation, sex, drugs, and hate, channeling the ugliest end of the Brazilian underground.
