One of the longer-running acts in the American black/death underground, Temecula, California's Draconis have been forging their sound since 1998, navigating the tension between the corrosive atmospherics of black metal and the punishing technicality of death metal across nearly three decades. Their Southern California origin — far from the genre's Scandinavian birthplace — lends their work a sun-bleached ferocity that's distinctly their own.
Draconis is a melodic death metal band from Río Gallegos, Santa Cruz, founded in 2003 by vocalist/guitarist Gerardo Vargas alongside Bruno Vargas (guitar), Marcos Villarroel (bass), and César Román (drums). The band has released five studio albums, including "The Awakening of the Deads" (2014), "Spreading the Virus" (2017), "Anthems for an Eternal Battle" (2020, Brutal Records), and "We Are the Virus" (2025), and has shared stages with international acts including Amon Amarth and At the Gates.
