Dälek (pronounced 'dialect') is an experimental hip-hop group formed in Newark, New Jersey in 1998 by MC Will Brooks (dälek) and producer Alap Momin (Oktopus). Their sound layers dense noise, industrial texture, and shoegaze abstraction over confrontational, politically charged rhymes — drawing comparisons to Public Enemy's sonic maximalism and Einstürzende Neubauten's industrial abrasion. The 2002 album From Filthy Tongue of Gods and Griots, one of four LPs on Ipecac Recordings, defined their approach, and the group continued releasing material through Precipice (2022).
