Originally formed in 2002 with ties to Phoenix, Arizona, Graves at Sea relocated to Portland, Oregon and built a slow-burning reputation across splits and EPs released through Southern Lord and 20 Buck Spin before a 2008 breakup and subsequent 2012 reunion. Their long-awaited debut full-length The Curse That Is finally arrived in 2016 on Relapse Records, a crushing hour-plus of sludge and doom metal nearly fifteen years in the making. The band drew on the Oregon and Oakland heavy underground, drawing comparisons to Eyehategod and Electric Wizard while maintaining a distinctly bleak Pacific Northwest character.
Graves in Autumn is a black metal project from Osnabruck, Germany, formed in 2012, channeling autumnal melancholy and decay through atmospheric black metal. The project's seasonal imagery reflects a contemplative approach to the genre.
Formed in Florence, South Carolina in December 2005, Graves of Valor featured members drawn from the Through the Eyes of the Dead circle and signed to Relapse Records for their sole album Salarian Gate, released in May 2009. The record offered technically focused death metal with thematic references to ancient Rome, standing as a compact and precise statement before the band dissolved due to lineup instability. Key members later resurfaced as Ditch Eel.
