Formed in Tokyo in 1981, G.I.S.M. were among the first Japanese hardcore bands and among the most stylistically extreme, fusing hardcore punk with heavy metal guitar and industrial noise influences well before such combinations became commonplace. Their 1984 debut Detestation, released on Dogma Records, became a cult document of the international punk underground after appearing on the International P.E.A.C.E. Benefit Compilation, and the 1987 follow-up M.A.N. shifted toward slower, more metal-oriented terrain. The band dissolved following the death of guitarist Randy Uchida from cancer in 2001.
Gitaron is a heavy metal act from Beveren, Belgium, whose 2016 triple album You Own the World spans sixteen tracks of classic heavy metal and hard rock with medieval and Arthurian themes running through songs like Camelot Rising, Excalibur, and We're Knights. The album was self-recorded at the band's own Gitaron Studio.
Borrowing their name from a race of astral-plane warriors, Seattle's Githyanki conjure sludge and stoner metal that feels genuinely otherworldly — dense, psychedelic, and displaced from any comfortable reality. Active since 2015, they're a cult act in the Pacific Northwest heavy underground.
Gitrog is a German atmospheric black metal solo project by Schemen, formed in 2018, whose debut Spectral Heraldry (2018) was released on 100 hand-numbered cassettes through Worship Tapes. The album blends melancholic black metal with clear vocals reminiscent of 1980s goth rock, using cover art sourced from Rodolphe Bresdin's 1854 work The Comedy of Death.
