Jivaro is a heavy rock band from Spain that blends hard-hitting riffs with progressive and folk-influenced arrangements. Their muscular sound draws on a wide palette of influences from classic rock to modern metal, creating a distinctly Mediterranean take on heavy music.
Jizz Witch is a heavy experimental metal project from Groningen, Netherlands, blending funeral doom, sludge, stoner rock, and space rock into psychedelic heaviness. Their instrumental releases including Doomonomicon (2017) and Bongzord deliver extended, fuzzed-out compositions drenched in cosmic doom atmospherics.
Jizzlobber is a sludge rock band from Colmar, France, whose self-described sound combines sludge rock and roll with space and doom chunks. Their self-titled album (2012) delivers five tracks of grimy, fuzzed-out heaviness that merges stoner rock groove with crushing sludge and spacey atmospherics.
JJ Wilde is a Canadian rock singer-songwriter from Kitchener, Ontario whose music brings hard rock grit, bluesy vocal force, and modern alternative production into a direct, hook-driven form. After years of writing, working jobs, and trying to build a career, she broke through with the 2019 EP Wilde Eyes, Steady Hands and the album Ruthless, a record powered by songs such as "The Rush" and "Best Boy." Wilde fits hard rock scope through distorted guitars, muscular choruses, and a vocal style that carries rasp, attitude, and emotional control. Her music often frames independence, exhaustion, desire, anger, and survival through sharp melodic writing rather than extended instrumental display. That makes the songs accessible without making them soft. The guitars are punchy, the drums are built for live impact, and the production leaves room for her voice to remain the central force. Later material, including Vices, expanded the personal range while keeping the rock foundation intact. JJ Wilde stands out because she sounds like a performer shaped by both classic rock singers and contemporary alternative radio, using familiar tools with enough bite and personality to make them feel lived in.
JJax is the solo project of Julien Jacquemond from Chambery, France, a veteran of several metal bands including Inner Visions, Further Dimension, and Dead Season. His solo work channels his decades of experience as a vocalist, composer, and multi-instrumentalist into original metal compositions with strong melodic hooks.
Job for a Cowboy formed in Glendale, Arizona in 2003 when its founding members were teenagers, initially playing deathcore before pivoting decisively to straight death metal with their Metal Blade debut Genesis (2007). The New York Times described the band's sound as descended from hardcore punk with a guttural, brute-force delivery, and subsequent records pushed further into technical death metal territory before the band went on an extended hiatus.
Joda Cema is a death/groove/thrash metal band from Bournemouth, UK, who have been taking the bullshit out of metal since 2004. Their humorously titled album David Hasselhoff's Top 50 Power Ballads (2016) belies the serious heaviness of their death and thrash metal compositions.
Joe La Mouk is a one-man punk and metalcore project from Beausoleil, France, active since 2007 and self-described as a musical outlet where the only rules are nonsense and humor. Their releases including Au Top Du Stress (2023) blend punk, garage, metal, and hardcore with absurdist lyrics about topics ranging from pizza ovens to French astronaut Thomas Pesquet.
Legendary vocalist Joe Lynn Turner — known for his stints with Rainbow, Deep Purple, and Yngwie Malmsteen — stepped fully into heavy metal territory with his later solo output, his powerful, range-spanning voice as commanding as ever in service of harder-edged material.
