Karl Sanders, founding guitarist and primary songwriter of Egyptian-themed death metal institution Nile, launched his solo ambient project in 2004 with Saurian Meditation on Relapse Records. Departing entirely from Nile's sonic brutality, the Saurian series trades guitar distortion for acoustic strings, oud, saz, bendir, and ney flute, constructing meditative soundscapes steeped in ancient Egyptian and reptilian mysticism.
