Buffalo, New York's Mephistoph have been weaponizing blackened death metal since 2013, fusing the two most extreme genres in metal into something that combines death metal's technical brutality with black metal's corrosive, dissonant atmosphere. Buffalo's underground metal scene operates largely beneath the radar of the coastal metropolises, and Mephistoph embody that hardened, unglamorous extremity — music made without expectation of mainstream acknowledgment, built purely for those who want the darkness at maximum intensity. Their catalog represents over a decade of committed sonic punishment.
Rooted in the South American underground, Mephistopheles play a morbid amalgam of doom, death, and black metal drawing from the same unholy lineage as Mystifier, Sarcófago, and Blasphemy. Their two early demo tapes — 'The Prophecy' and 'Black God' — were later compiled and released on CD by Voz da Morte Prod in 2018 as 'The Prophecy of Black God,' preserving eleven tracks of raw, English-language ritual extremity.
Mephistophelian Altar is a black and death metal band from Finland, formed in 2025. They channel infernal extremity through the darkest convergence of black and death metal.

Mephobia are a thrash/death/groove metal band from Vienna, Austria, formed in 2019 and operating under the self-described tagline 'very hard music from very soft people.' The band released their debut full-length 'Reign of the Degenerates' in April 2021, followed by 'Angry Elephant' (2023), 'Inner Sanctuary' (2023), and the 'Terror of the Malignant Tumour' EP in early 2024.
