Formed in Salvador, Bahia in 1989 by Beelzeebubth, Lucifuge Rofocale, Behemoth, and Meugninousouan, Mystifier are one of the foundational names in the Brazilian extreme underground, blending primitive black metal brutality with a dark, ceremonial atmosphere and restrained synth use. Their run of records — Wicca (1992), Göetia (1993), The World Is So Good That Who Made It Does Not Live Here (1996), and Profanus (2001) — established them as the most significant black metal band from the northeast of the country.
A newcomer from Denver, Colorado formed in 2024, Mystigaard draw on the classic heavy metal tradition, bringing a fresh voice to the genre with the kind of riff-forward, melodic approach that echoes the genre's foundational bands while remaining planted in the present.
Cleveland, Ohio's Mystik formed in 2018 and blend power and thrash metal into a high-energy combination — the melodic ambition and vocal hooks of power metal fused with the speed and aggression of thrash, giving their music a driving, hook-laden intensity.
