Columbus guitarist Rob Johnson has been developing his craft since 2009 at the crossroads of neoclassical shred and progressive metal, where technical velocity meets compositional ambition. His solo work draws on the lineage of players like Malmsteen and Petrucci but filters it through a distinctly contemporary sensibility focused on melodic clarity alongside precision.
Rob Zombie's solo catalog welds horror-movie obsession, industrial rhythm, groove metal, and carnival shock-rock into a style that is instantly recognizable. After White Zombie, he pushed the trash-culture riffs and monster-movie samples into a sleeker, more mechanized solo sound on Hellbilly Deluxe, where "Dragula," "Living Dead Girl," and "Superbeast" turned blunt guitar figures and shouted hooks into late-1990s heavy rock staples. The songs rarely chase intricacy; they work through repetition, stomp, sampled dialogue, distorted electronics, and choruses designed to feel like slogans from a lurid drive-in nightmare. Zombie's filmmaking and visual direction matter because the music is built like a whole aesthetic world, with stage sets, video imagery, and record artwork reinforcing the same ghoulish maximalism. Later albums kept shifting the balance between industrial throb, biker-rock swagger, and psychedelic sleaze, but the core remained physical and theatrical. His best work turns pulp imagery into rhythm, making horror feel less like a theme than an engine driving the riffs.
Sludge/doom metal band from Italy, active since 2013. Their approach delivers crushing heaviness at the intersection of sludge and doom.
Robert Beade is a progressive heavy metal and shred guitarist from Pontevedra in Galicia, northwestern Spain, active since 2008. The solo project showcases virtuoso guitar work through progressive metal from the Atlantic coast of Spain.
Robert Rodrigo is a heavy metal and rock/shred guitarist from Barakaldo in the Basque Country, Spain, active since 2000. A quarter century of activity makes him one of the veteran solo metal artists from the Basque industrial heartland.
Instrumental guitar project from Recife led by Roberto Torao, who also co-founded the Recife power metal band Silent Moon in 2002 alongside keyboardist Rodolfo Matsumoto. The debut album A Estrada, a 13-track instrumental record spanning metal, progressive rock, and fusion, was self-released on September 15, 2009, with Raniere Falcão on bass and Ebel Perrelli on drums.
NWOBHM, heavy metal, and speed metal band from Liverpool, active since 2012. Named after the French revolutionary, their approach channels the classic British heavy metal tradition with speed metal velocity from Merseyside.
Vienna-based retro-doom quartet formed in 2018 — the name a German-language pun on RoboCop — RoboKopf plays heavy psych and proto-metal in the tradition of early 1970s doom and heavy rock. Their debut The Echoes of Owls, released on Heavy Psych Sounds Records, combines down-tuned twin guitars, jazzy drumming, distorted bass, and theremin textures with lyrics exploring violence, art, and love.
Stoner metal/rock band from Edinburgh, Scotland, active since 2014. Their playfully absurd name accompanies hazy, riff-driven stoner music from the Scottish capital.
