Cheboygan, Michigan's Thyst have been dealing in straight-ahead death metal since 2017, coming from one of Michigan's smaller northern cities where the isolation seems to have fed a direct, unfussy approach to extreme music. Far from any major Midwest metal hub, the band carries the genre's core values — heaviness, speed, and riff density — without the genre-blurring that proximity to bigger scenes often encourages.
Five-piece metal band from Villach, Carinthia, Thytopia feature powerful female vocals and a sound that blends thrash and melodic death metal with blues and rock undercurrents. Their debut album "Bleeding Earth" (2008), mastered by Andy Classen in Germany, earned strong regional reviews, and they went on to share stages with Amon Amarth and Dark Tranquility before releasing "Apparatus Diaboli" in 2014.

Heavy metal project founded in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul in 2020 by Tiago Assis, who handles vocals, bass, and guitar alongside drummer Bruno Giordano and guitarist Renato Osorio. The 2021 single Ere the Sun Rises — recorded at Dry House Studio in Porto Alegre — features guest appearances from Brittney Slayes of Canadian power metal band Unleash the Archers and vocalist Iuri Sanson.
Tiamat formed near Stockholm, Sweden in 1987 under the original name Treblinka, playing raw black/death metal before renaming after the Babylonian deity and releasing their debut Sumerian Cry in 1990. Under the direction of guitarist and vocalist Johan Edlund, the band underwent a series of dramatic stylistic transformations: Clouds (1992) introduced gothic influences into their death-doom foundation, and Wildhoney (1994) is widely regarded as a landmark of progressive and atmospheric doom metal that earned the band festival slots at Dynamo and Wacken. Later albums including A Deeper Kind of Slumber (1997) and Judas Christ (2002) moved toward gothic rock and alternative sounds. Tiamat are recognized as pioneers of both gothic metal and atmospheric death metal.
Thrash metal band from Eisenstadt, Burgenland, Tiananmen were formed in July 1987 and became one of Austria's earliest thrash acts, contributing tracks to compilations including "America Is Waiting" (1996) via Whorehouse Music. The band split after an active run through the late 1980s and 1990s, then saw a revival in 2021.
