A cornerstone of Spanish black metal since 1997, Akerbeltz has spent nearly three decades channeling Satanic fury from Lloret de Mar through releases on labels like BlackSeed Productions. From early works like "A Wave of Darkness" through 2022's "Merciless," the project remains one of the Iberian Peninsula's most enduring black metal institutions.
Akerbeltz is a black metal band from Contagem/Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, formed in the mid-1990s and drawing explicitly on the old-school traditions of Bathory and Hellhammer. They released "Therion Rising" in 1999 on Cogumelo Records — one of Brazil's most storied metal labels — and returned with "Akerbeltz Coven Rising" in 2011, maintaining their Satanic and pagan black metal aesthetic across both records.
Akercocke erupted across the UK metal scene in the late 1990s, wielding a fiendishly inventive blend of death, black, and progressive metal while famously performing in suits. Named after a talking monkey in Robert Nye's Faust interpretation, their reunion album "Renaissance in Extremis" proved that London's most intellectually fearsome extreme metal band had lost none of their satanic sophistication.
Thessaloniki's Akernar emerged in 2023 with a melodic yet ferocious blend of black and death metal, channelling the rich extreme metal tradition of northern Greece. Their sound balances blackened tremolo work with death metal heft and melodic sensibility.
