Shadows Fall is an American metalcore band from Springfield, Massachusetts, formed in 1996 by guitarists Jonathan Donais and Matt Bachand, who developed a sound that merged Gothenburg melodic death metal with American metalcore aggression. The band is considered one of the pillars of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal alongside Killswitch Engage, Lamb of God, and Unearth, with their 2004 album The War Within reaching number 20 on the Billboard 200 and becoming one of the era's defining records. After an indefinite hiatus beginning in 2014, the band reunited for live shows in 2021 and released new studio material in 2024 for the first time in twelve years.
