Woods of Ypres was founded in Windsor, Ontario, Canada in 2002 by David Gold, the band's sole constant member across a revolving cast of over twenty collaborators. Beginning as a melodic black metal act, Gold progressively steered the project toward gothic doom on a series of albums that tracked a deeply personal artistic evolution.
