Inverno Soturno is a depressive black metal and ambient project from Belém, Pará, Brazil, active since 2015. The project has released multiple works including "Uma Nova Perspectiva Sobre o Mundo," "Alexitimia Evidente," and "Sob A Lua Negra," exploring themes of isolation and emotional despair characteristic of the depressive black metal tradition.
Kalte Seetürme is a black metal and ambient project from São Paulo, Brazil, formed in 2024. The project has released three recordings — Kristallhallen, Nachtweg, and Blasser Glanz — all available on Bandcamp, with German-language titles pointing toward a Nordic-influenced aesthetic within the Brazilian underground scene.
Karl Sanders, founding guitarist and primary songwriter of Egyptian-themed death metal institution Nile, launched his solo ambient project in 2004 with Saurian Meditation on Relapse Records. Departing entirely from Nile's sonic brutality, the Saurian series trades guitar distortion for acoustic strings, oud, saz, bendir, and ney flute, constructing meditative soundscapes steeped in ancient Egyptian and reptilian mysticism. A second volume, Saurian Exorcisms, followed in 2009, and after a thirteen-year gap Sanders returned with Saurian Apocalypse in 2022 via Napalm Records.
Lacrimacorpus Dissolvens is a Progressive Death Metal/Ambient band from Mexico City, Mexico, formed in 2005. They released their debut full-length "Oath" in 2010, followed by the EP "Letters" in 2013 and the second full-length "Void (v. Beta)" in 2018. Their 2022 release "Epiphany" continued the band's approach of combining death metal instrumentation with ambient and atmospheric elements.
Midwife is the solo project of Madeline Johnston, initially developed within Denver, Colorado's DIY community around 2017. Johnston's sound — which she calls "heaven metal" — layers minimalist guitar, vocals, and ambient textures to create slowcore and shoegaze-inflected meditations on grief and loss. Albums including Forever (2020) and Luminol (2021) have earned her critical acclaim for their quiet emotional intensity.
Mistetaret fuses raw black metal with expansive ambient passages, conjuring a sound that evokes vast nocturnal spaces and cosmic isolation. Natura Aeternum is a Colombian duo from Montenegro, Quindío, formed in 2019 by Alexis Salazar and Fernanda Tabares, crafting Epic/Atmospheric Black Metal with ambient and folk influences rooted in themes of nature and Colombian folklore. The project has been extraordinarily prolific, releasing a stream of full-lengths and EPs since 2019, including the debut full-length "Winter Stories" (2020) and albums such as "Reminiscencia" (2022) and "The Faceless Man" (2023).
Nenavist blends atmospheric black metal, depressive black metal, and ambient into a cold, suffocating sound rooted in hatred and despair — the name itself means "hatred" in Slavic languages. Their 2024 release "Genom Screams" marks the project's early output, distributed through Wraith Productions.
Founded in June 1997 by multi-instrumentalist Cesar Severus, Poeticus Severus weave operatic heavy metal and dark ambient into a singular project the band itself calls "Operetus Barbaricus Metal," with Cecília Katrini contributing piano and backing vocals. Recent studio work includes Fulgor Sombrio (2022, recorded at Gruta Estúdio in Rio) and O Rugir da Ira (2024), both produced entirely by Severus.
