Formed in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands in 2008, Hamferð take their name from a Faroese folkloric term for the spectral apparitions of loved ones lost at sea, a concept that runs throughout their death-doom framework and Faroese-language lyrics. They won the Faroese heat and then the international final of the Wacken Metal Battle in 2012, earning a recording deal, and have since released three full-lengths including the acclaimed Támsins likam (2018) and the disaster-narrative Men Guðs hond er sterk on Metal Blade Records. Initially inspired by My Dying Bride, their work has transcended niche genre expectations to reach broader audiences.
