Saltatio Mortis is a German medieval metal band formed near Mannheim in 2000, whose name translates as 'dance of death.' The group built their sound around authentic period instruments including bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy, and shawm layered over modern rock and metal frameworks, establishing themselves as pioneers of the Mittelalter metal genre with their 2001 debut Tavernakel. Over more than two decades and a dozen studio albums, including Brot und Spiele (2018) and Für immer frei (2020), the band expanded their sonic palette to include orchestral arrangements, most recently collaborating with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra on 2024's Finsterwacht.

Schandmaul is a German medieval folk rock band formed in Munich in the summer of 1998 by six musicians who united for a folk rock concert and chose to write original material rather than perform covers. The band's name translates roughly as 'malicious tongue,' and their sound pairs hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, and shawm with electric guitar and bass to create a distinctive Mittelalter rock blend. One of the main protagonists of the German medieval rock movement alongside Subway to Sally and In Extremo, Schandmaul has placed six albums in the German top ten charts, with Unendlich (2014) peaking at number two.

Scott Kelly is the longtime frontman of sludge-doom legends Neurosis, and his solo work — launched in Oakland in 2001 — strips the massive amplification away to reveal something rawer and more intimate: acoustic folk, sparse progressive structures, and the same scarred emotional intensity that defines his work with his main band. His voice, weathered and confessional, carries the weight of decades of extreme music through arrangements built on fingerpicked guitar and quiet devastation. It is metal's spirit filtered through folk's bones.
