Lavras, BR · 2009–? · disbanded
Angústia was a blackgaze project from Lavras, Minas Gerais, Brazil, blending raw black metal with shoegaze textures — a combination of abrasive tremolo-picked riffs and dreamy, washed-out atmospherics. The project was active from 2009 and split up after a limited run of underground releases.

Cloakroom formed in Indiana in June 2012, developing a sound that drew equally from shoegaze's textured reverb, 1990s slowcore melancholy, and hardcore's physical weight, with reference points including Hum and Red House Painters. Their debut Further Out appeared in 2015, and the band went on to release Time Well (2017) and Dissolution Wave (2022) on Relapse Records. Their 2025 album Last Leg of the Human Table continued their exploration of heavy, introspective guitar music.

Formed in Cape Town in 2018 by veterans of Wildernessking and Crow Black Sky, Constellatia craft aching, cinematic post-black metal that draws equally from the atmospheric grandeur of Wolves in the Throne Room and the melancholic sweep of Agalloch, with lyrical themes centered on human perseverance rather than black metal's customary misanthropy. Their debut The Language of Limbs (2019) earned them a deal with Season of Mist, and their sophomore Magisterial Romance (2022) further established them as one of the Southern Hemisphere's most distinctive extreme metal voices.
Belo Horizonte, BR · 2011–present · active

King Woman is the San Francisco project of vocalist and songwriter Kristina Esfandiari, originally conceived as a solo endeavor around 2009 and later expanded into a full band. Their 2017 Relapse Records debut Created in the Image of Suffering, preceded by the 2015 EP Doubt on The Flenser, merged crushing doom metal with the hazy textures of shoegaze, drawing critical comparisons to Swans and Chelsea Wolfe. The follow-up, Celestial Blues (2021, Relapse), deepened the band's exploration of trauma, religious disillusionment, and atmospheric weight.
GB · 2021–present · active
Love Is Noise is a UK two-piece formed in 2021, consisting of vocalist Cameron Humphrey and guitarist Tom Mellon, who blend alternative metal with shoegaze textures and post-hardcore intensity. Drawing influence from Loathe, Glassjaw, and Thornhill, the duo released their debut album on Century Media Records in February 2025, titled To Live in a Different Way. Their self-described approach layers heavy guitar work with atmospheric density, carving out a niche in the contemporary British heavy underground.
Puerto Deseado, AR · 2012–present · active
Macáes is a one-man post-black metal and shoegaze project by Fernando, based in Puerto Deseado, Santa Cruz province — one of the southernmost metal acts in Argentina. The project blends black metal intensity with shoegaze texture in an ambient, atmospheric style.
CO, US · 2017–present · active
Midwife is the solo project of Madeline Johnston, initially developed within Denver, Colorado's DIY community around 2017. Johnston's sound — which she calls "heaven metal" — layers minimalist guitar, vocals, and ambient textures to create slowcore and shoegaze-inflected meditations on grief and loss. Albums including Forever (2020) and Luminol (2021) have earned her critical acclaim for their quiet emotional intensity.
