Aeternam is a Canadian symphonic death metal band formed in Quebec City in 2007, distinguished by the integration of Middle Eastern, Arabic, and Turkish melodic and rhythmic elements into a Western melodic death metal framework. Their debut Disciples of the Unseen arrived in 2010, followed by Moongod and Ruins of Empires, with lyrical themes centered on ancient civilizations, mythology, and religious history. Signed to Metal Blade Records, the band represents one of the more consistent efforts to fuse extreme metal with North African and Near Eastern musical traditions.
Alyiria is a progressive symphonic death metal band from Teresina, Piauí, formed by vocalist Bruna Soares alongside Ícaro Allysson, João Arthur, and Leonardo César. Their debut album "Heiress" (2023) is a concept record tied to a dark fantasy novel, drawing comparisons to Fleshgod Apocalypse and Cradle of Filth for its hour-long runtime, neoclassical guitar solos, and densely orchestrated arrangements.
Septicflesh is a Greek symphonic death metal band formed in Athens in 1990 by brothers Spyridon 'Seth Siro Anton' Antoniou and Christos Antoniou alongside guitarist Sotiris Vagenas, initially releasing dark and gothic-inflected death metal records through the 1990s. Following a hiatus, the band reformed in 2007 with a dramatically expanded sound incorporating the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and a full choir, debuting this approach on Communion (2008) through Season of Mist. Subsequent albums including The Great Mass (2011), Titan (2014), Codex Omega (2017), and Modern Primitive (2022) cemented their status as one of extreme metal's most technically and orchestrally ambitious acts, and in 2024 they became the first metal band to perform at the historic Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens.
Wizardthrone is a British-based symphonic death metal supergroup assembled in 2020 around Alestorm and Gloryhammer keyboardist Chris Bowes, also drawing members from Aether Realm, Nekrogoblikon, and Forlorn Citadel. Their debut Hypercube Necrodimensions (2021, Napalm Records) combined technical melodic death metal with bombastic symphonic orchestration and science fiction and fantasy conceptual themes delivered with self-aware grandiosity. The project functions as both a serious exercise in extreme metal craft and a deliberately theatrical collaboration between established genre figures.
Ynys Wydryn is a symphonic death metal band from Salvador, Bahia, built around multi-instrumentalist Dan Loureiro, a singer and guitarist born in 1983 who has also played in Carnified and other Brazilian acts. The band released their debut album Malevolent Creation through Eternal Hatred Records, recorded at Revolusom Studio in Salvador, marking one of the few symphonic death metal releases to emerge from the northeastern Brazilian underground.
