AngelMaker approach deathcore as a many-voiced assault, using multiple vocalists, thick guitar layering, and abrupt rhythmic turns to make their songs feel crowded with menace. The band gained traction through releases such as Dissentient, the self-titled album, Sanctum, and later singles that continued refining their mix of brutality and melody. Their vocal attack is central: guttural lows, shrieks, and overlapping phrases create a feeling of pressure from several directions at once, while the instruments move between tremolo-picked darkness, slam-like drops, and mournful melodic leads. AngelMaker's writing is not just a sequence of breakdowns; the better songs build tension through pacing, letting blast sections, dissonant passages, and heavy pauses set each other up. The melodic side gives the band a tragic edge, especially when the guitars open into cold, dramatic lines before collapsing back into low-end punishment. Their music fits comfortably alongside modern deathcore while drawing enough from death metal and blackened atmosphere to avoid sounding narrow. AngelMaker are at their strongest when speed, melody, and blunt impact arrive as one controlled surge.
Lorna Shore erupted from the New Jersey deathcore underground into global phenomenon status with the arrival of vocalist Will Ramos, whose inhuman vocal range spans guttural lows to piercing highs that broke the internet via their 2021 single 'To the Hellfire.' Their 2022 album 'Pain Remains' transcended deathcore conventions with symphonic grandeur, culminating in the devastating 15-minute closing trilogy. Lorna Shore have become arguably the biggest band in modern extreme metal, selling out arenas worldwide.
Synestia make symphonic deathcore where orchestration is part of the attack, not decoration added after the fact. Founded by guitarist and songwriter Sam Melchior, the project combines blast-driven deathcore, blackened atmosphere, melodic death metal sweep, and cinematic strings into music that is both elaborate and physically punishing. Maleficium established the project's taste for grand scale, harsh vocals, and violent rhythmic drops, while the collaborative EP The Poetic Edda with Disembodied Tyrant brought wider attention to the same mix of brutality and theatrical composition. Synestia's songs often move like miniature set pieces: ominous orchestral openings, sudden low-end punishment, fast technical passages, and melodies that make the breakdowns feel even larger. The project stands out because the symphonic writing intensifies the heaviness instead of smoothing it out. When the strings rise over gutturals, blasts, and chugs, the result is not a softer contrast but a bigger, darker frame for modern extreme metal.
